I have this coffee table. It’s a big coffee table my mom picked up at garage sale for $20 bucks (sweet!) and the larger scale works perfectly with our two monster size couches (couch merger explained here), but it’s not exactly the most attractive piece of furniture in the room.
See what I mean? Although, I have to say it is a well built piece of furniture and with a little makeover magic I think it could become a standout piece (and not in an ugly way). Now for my dilemma. I have no idea where to begin with this piece. Usually when I see something the ideas just pop into my head and it just sort of clicks, but not with this one. So I’ve been doing a lot of browsing and searching looking for some ideas to help get my creative juices flowing.
Some of my current favorite coffee table DIY makeovers…
This is a mosaic out of scrapbook paper. With the right paper and a crazy amount of patience this could be cool.
She used carbon paper to transfer her design onto the table before painting. Simple, but personalized. I love this.
I love the look of this one too, but can’t really think of a way to pull it off with my coffee table. She has some other great pieces on her blog.
Decoupage. I love the uniqueness of this. Not sure if I’m brave enough to do this on my coffee table, but I know I want to do this on something.
I know I won’t be able to tackle this project until after the Christmas Crunch, but I figure it can’t hurt to start collecting ideas now. Especially, since I just so undecided on how I want this piece to look. Any suggestions?
